Course Abstract
Bipolar Disorder - OverviewThis course provides an overview of bipolar disorder (BP), a condition that is also known as manic-depressive illness. BP affects more than two million adults and it typically develops in late adolescence or early adulthood. BP is a long-term illness that can be treated. This course reviews the signs and symptoms of BP, the spectrum of mood states in BP, etiology and course of the disorder, and methods of assessment and treatment.

Learning Objectives
1. Identify signs and symptoms of BP and discuss the different mood states found in those with BP
2. Discuss the causes of BP and the course of the disorder
3. Understand symptoms of BP in childhood
4. Identify methods of assessment for BP and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments
